We are seeking an educator — a mentor who directs learning, cultivates curiosity, and widens a child’s horizons.
Caregiving is part of any household role, but it is not the heart of this one. The family is looking for someone with a genuine teaching sensibility: a person who plans, enriches, and elevates — who treats each afternoon as an opportunity to expand two young minds through reading, language, culture, and considered play.

This is a split schedule — a role built around the natural shape of a school day. Mornings set the children in motion; afternoons are where the real teaching lives.

The day opens with calm and structure — a gentle, well-ordered start that readies the children in body and mind, followed by the school drop-off. A morning done well sets the tone for everything that follows.

The heart of the role. Homework guided with patience, then enrichment beyond the syllabus — reading, language, the arts, cultural exploration, and extracurriculars chosen to stretch curiosity and broaden the children’s sense of the world.
THE HOUSEHOLD
A warm, inclusive home on the island.
The children — a nine-year-old and a six-year-old — are bright, engaged, and full of questions. Theirs is a loving two-parent household that values learning, kindness, and discretion in equal measure.
The home includes one much-loved dog, so a genuine ease and affection around animals is essential. Life on Fisher Island is private and serene; the right person will value that quiet, and honor it.

Five to ten years, as a governess
Dedicated experience in the governess role — not adjacent childcare. A demonstrable history of guiding children’s education within private households.
BACKGROUND
A true educator’s foundation
A teaching background, degree, or equivalent depth in child development and learning — someone who plans a child’s growth with intention.
LANGUAGE
Russian — a major advantage
A fluent command of Russian is highly sought and will distinguish your candidacy considerably. It is not an absolute requirement, but for this family it is a defining strength.
TEMPERAMENT
Discreet, warm, at ease with dogs
Cultured and calm, comfortable with the privacy this home requires, genuinely affectionate toward animals, and affirming of an inclusive household.
